Mrs. Mildred B. Oaks Shippy Fookes, was born on September 3, 1922 in Flint, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Grace Hoyt Oaks. She was the widow of the late Frank Shippy and the late George Fookes. Mildred was a retired LPN with Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. She loved crocheting, knitting, tatting made many snowflakes for Christmas trees, cross stitched tablecloths and wall hangings and loved working cross word puzzles. Mrs. Fookes was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene. She was a faithful member and loved her church family. In 1983, she moved to Holiday Florida where she enjoyed the sun and beautiful sky. After 20 years, she moved to Tennessee and lived there for 8 years.

Mrs. Fookes was 88 years old and a resident of Poplar Estates in Columbia. She passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Poplar Estates.

Survivors include a son, Jack Rainelle Shippy of Brea, California; two daughters, Linda Al Bigger of Columbia and Linette Bob Ferguson of Safety Harbor, Florida; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fookes will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, December 31, 2010 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Mark Lindstrom officiating.

The Fookes family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be all the members of the Grace Church of the Nazarene.
