Mildred Stanfill Sharpton, age 87, passed away on January 6, 2016 at her home in Columbia, Tennessee.
Millie was born on February 24, 1928 in Houston County, Tennessee to the late Edward Thomas Stanfill and Mary Ward Stanfill. She was raised on the banks of Yellow Creek there in Houston County. Millie married William E. Sharpton on April 3, 1954. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 1994. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a nurse, a graduate of St. Thomas Hospital School of Nursing, and with her help three of her younger sister were St. Thomas graduates. She worked at Maury Reginal Medical Center and retired from nursing at Dr. Kustoff’s office. In all Millie served her community as a nurse for 51 years. Mille was a fantastic quilter, and especially loved her quilting class at Craft Memorial and she also loved to read. She loved her church family and was a 62 year member of Craft Memorial Methodist Church.
The family will visit with friends on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee with Rev. Tom Vann and Pastor Angy Trimmer officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Millie is survived by her sons David (Kim) Sharpton of Columbia, Tennessee and Al Sharpton of Columbia, Tennessee; daughter Janice Elliot of Nashville; grandsons Grant Sharpton and William Sharpton, Brian (Maria) Elliot and Julie Elliot; great-grandchildren Madison and Tinsley Sharpton, Grace, Michael and Lillian Elliot, Michaela Talvin and Gregory Elliot, II; and siblings Ray Thomas Stanfill of Vanleer, TN, Linda Watts of Springfield, TN, and Edith Jackson of Mobile, AL.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents Edward Thomas and Mary Ward Stanfill siblings James L. Stanfill, Sarah Adams, Willadean McIllwain, Mary Roberts and Edwin Neal Stanfill; and grandson Greg Elliot.
Pallbearers will be Grant Sharpton, William Sharpton, Bob Wren, Keith Stanfill, Greg Jackson and Gary McIllwain. Honorary pallbearers will be the James Underwood Sunday School Class and the Craft Fellowship Class, both from Craft Memorial Methodist Church.
