Michael “Shannon” Stacy, age 48, of Grundy, Virginia passed away on December 12, 2022, with his loving sister, Angie Pack, by his side.
Shannon grew up in Hurley, Virginia where he played football for Hurley High School, and graduated in 1992. He was an all-state wide receiver and defensive back in the early 90s playing under Coach Mark Hackney, whom he admired and respected. Shannon is still considered by many to be one of the best to ever play both positions in the state. His love of football continued throughout his life as he was a true supporter and fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Shannon loved to do many things from riding Harleys to fishing on a creek bank. He spent many years working in the Automotive Industry, selling and financing automobiles in several dealerships in Tennessee and Virginia. He was also proud to serve his community as a Firefighter (#623) in Clintwood, Virginia.
Shannon was best at making people know that they were loved and cared for. On even his hardest days you could expect to be told “I’m just checking on you”. Shannon was a proud Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend. Shannon was a proud Great Uncle to Clay and would have been very excited to be an Uncle to a new nephew on the way. Likewise, as Shannon loved his family and friends, he was also loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
Shannon is survived by his sister, Angie (Chris) Pack of Grundy, VA, his mother Patsy Stacy of Honaker, VA, niece, Morgan Pack, and nephew, Alex Pack both of Grundy, several cousins as well as “Special” family Erin Smith and her daughters Mckenzie, Claire and Abigail. He was also survived by many special friends including David (Krissy)Coleman and Cheri (Todd) Green. Shannon was preceded in death by his beloved father Lonnie Ervin Stacy, Jr., and grandparents, Lonnie and Cora Stacy and Wallace and Nelly Justus.
A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date where his remains will be laid to rest in Knoxville, Tennessee, a place dear to his heart.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance of Shannon to Clintwood Volunteer Fire Department, 206 Volunteer Ave, Clintwood, VA 24228.
