Melissa Mae Sawyer, age 55, a long-time resident of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away January 31, 2020 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A Williamson County native, Melissa was born on September 5, 1964 in her home town of Franklin, Tennessee; she is the daughter of Billy R. Dawson and Susan Dawson of Columbia. She attended Central High School and studied at BYU Rexburg, Idaho. She was proud of her Southern heritage and always spoke of how blessed she was to be born in the beautiful South. She enjoyed the outdoors, the lakes and fishing when she found the time, Melissa was known for her love for people; her smile would light up anyone’s day. She had a special love for her siblings and family.
She was preceded in death by her brother: William Deron Sawyer; her father; William T. Sawyer; step-sister: Lisa Carol Dawson; her grandparents: Lucy Ann Perry and Joshua Sawyer, Winifred Mae Eagle and George Wilson Goforth. She is survived by her brother: Jason (Kaylene) Sawyer of Salem, Oregon; sister: Rebecca Anne Sawyer of Naples, Florida; step-sister: Cheryl (John) Jolley of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Dawn Scribner of Columbia, Tennessee; step-brother: Mark (Carrie) Dawson of Sunlake, Arizona.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, or cause of your choice.
We wish to thank all her caregivers at Hospice for their loving care, for Dr. Ben Gardner for his help and kindness, the doctors and nurses of Maury County Medical Center, and our friends and neighbors. Your prayers and love have carried our family through this very sad time.
