Melissa A. Cantrell Hendrix, a native of Columbia, passed away on November 15, 2023, at the age of 68. Born on November 19, 1955, to the late Wilburn Harper Cantrell and Betty Grooms Cantrell, Melissa leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Melissa's warmth and love extended to her seven children: Laurie (Robert) Edwards, Marvin Thomson, Tina Parson, Misty Hendrix, Michael Hendrix, Stephen Hendrix, and Cobey (Kristin) Edwards. Additionally, she leaves behind 17 grandchildren: Samantha Thompson, Sam Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Casey Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Grace Graham, Jack Graham, Briley Graham, Andrew Rich, Jr., Chloe Edwards, Karmin Cates, Keytin Edwards, Courtney Edwards, Brice Hendrix, Brent Hendrix, Bradley Hendrix, and Suvannah Hendrix, a testament to the love and joy she brought to her expanding family. Melissa is survived by her siblings, Steve Cantrell, Stanley Cantrell, and Vicki Calvert.
She is preceded in death by her sisters, Glenda Parson and Sherry Johnson, but she leaves behind a wealth of memories that will be forever cherished by those who knew her.
Melissa found joy in simple pleasures, particularly her love for crime shows and her unwavering devotion to the TV series Supernatural, where the character Dean Winchester held a special place in her heart. She would eagerly watch every season multiple times, finding comfort and entertainment in the supernatural adventures.
Above all, Melissa adored her family, and her home was always filled with love and laughter. Her absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt, and she will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she showered upon those around her.
A visitation for Melissa will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10:30 am with Doyle Parham officiating at Polk Memorial Gardens where Melissa will be laid to rest.
Pallbearers are Jack Reed, Briley Graham, Brice Hendrix, Andrew Rich, Jr, Seneca Cantrell, Luke Calvert, and Malachi Calvert. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Mencer and William Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that any donations be sent to the funeral home to assist with the funeral expenses during these difficult times.
Melissa Hendrix's legacy will endure through the memories of those whose lives she touched, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
