Melba Pickard Philips

Mrs. Melba Pickard Philips, 97, died Monday May 24, 2004 at her residence in Mt. Pleasant.

Graveside services for Mrs. Philips will be conducted Saturday May 29, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville with Reverend Elmer Crosby officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

The Davidson County native was the daughter of the late Howard and Hattie Swain Pickard. She was the widow of Dr. Daniel D. Philips. She was a member of the Maury County Historical Society and D.A.R. She was an avid bridge player. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.

She is survived by a cousin, Jane Swain of Nashville, TN; niece, Mary Katherine Richard Hobbs Pickard of Nashville, TN; nephews, Gerry Avary Doubleday of Highlands, NC, Daniel Sylvian Doubleday of Lockport, LA, Jack Judy Pickard and Howard Pickard both of Nashville, TN; great-nieces, Candace David Shauberger of Norman, OK, Allison Rob Oxoby of Calgary, Alberta, Jessica Doubleday of Hendersonville, TN, Jennifer Doubleday of Knoxville, TN, Jill Pickard of Nashville, TN and Ginger Pickard of Knoxville, TN; great-nephews, Eldridge Doubleday of Bloomington, IN, Daniel Doubleday of Hendersonville, TN, Guy Caughron of OK; a friend Thomas Gordon of Columbia, TN.

She was preceded in death by a son, Danny Philips; sisters, Ruby Pickard Caughron and Sue Pickard Doubleday; brothers, Howard Greene Pickard and Jack Monroe Pickard; nephew, Glenn Caughron and a niece, Pat Caughron.

Mrs. Philips was cared for by Louise Woodson, Mary Elizabeth Parker, Lynn McKnight, and Shirley Robinson all of Mt. Pleasant.
