July 31, 1961 — June 17, 2009

Mrs. Melanie Lee Lovely Coleman, age 47, a resident of Owen Avenue in Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, at Maury Regional Hospital following a long battle with ALS.

Funeral services for Melanie will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Jerry Elder officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born on July 31, 1961 in Ft. Knox, KY, Melanie was the daughter of Jean Payton Lovely of Columbia and the late Elbert Lovely. She was the wife of John Robert Bobby Coleman of Columbia.

Melanie felt as though she was very blessed during her lifetime by being married to her soul mate and having two wonderful children at age 35 & 36. She had ridden a Harley for 25 years and felt as though she was living the American dream before her ALS diagnosis in March 2007.

Melanie never failed to volunteer for room mother for each of children s classes and never missed a school event or program while working the midnight shift as a certified instrument tech at Maury Regional Hospital. She coached soccer for a number of years in the Columbia Soccer Association and was named Coach of the Year in the fall of 2007 and spring of 2008. She was of the Church of Christ faith.

After her ALS diagnosis she worked tirelessly as her health would permit to promote awareness of and raise funds for this debilitating disease.

Survivors in addition to her husband and mother include her children: Samuel Logan Coleman and Catherine Leigh Coleman, both of Columbia; brothers & sisters: Gary Ophelia Lovely of Cornersville, Rhonda David Parker of Columbia, Wilma Jo James Clark of Columbia, Robin James Cothran of Columbia, Donald Brenda Lovely of Culleoka, and Billy Tracy Lovely of Culleoka; brothers & sisters-in-law: Jerry Penny Coleman of Corpus Christi, TX, Hollis Pevahouse of Columbia, Joe Coleman of Corpus Christi, TX, Mary Lou Javier Arreola of Corpus Christi, TX; Carolyn Coleman of Cullman, AL; mother-in-law: Mae Yvonne Coleman of Columbia. She is also survived by over 100 nieces and nephews. Melanie was preceded in death by one brother: Charles Elbert Chuck Lovely and her father-in-law: John Lee Coleman.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the MDA-ALS Clinic at Vanderbilt, 3354 Perimeter Hill Drive, Suite 305, Nashville, TN 37211.
