Mrs. Mavis Cornelia Gibson Dowdy, 93, a resident of Sunnyside Drive in Columbia, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Maury Regional Hospital.
The family will visit with friends Thursday, October 2, 2003 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Dowdy will be conducted Saturday, October 4, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden, Alabama with Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Crestwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 12:00 noon until service time at Crestwood Funeral Home.
The Calhoun County, Alabama native was the daughter of the late O.W. and Azzilee Davis Gibson. She was the widow of John Horton Dowdy who died in 1980. having been a resident of Columbia for the past several years, Mrs. Dowdy lived in Gadsden from 1934 until 1961 and was a resident of Piedmont Route of Cherokee County, Alabama from 1961 until the 1990?s. She was retired from Dwight Manufacturing Company in Gadsden, Alabama. She was a homemaker, a member of the Highland Church of Christ and former member of the Centre Church of Christ in Centre, Alabama.
She is survived by a son, Curtis R. Wynona Dowdy of Columbia, TN; two granddaughters, Lisa Todd Fitzgerald of Columbia, TN and Denise Greg Sanders of Prospect, TN; four great grandchildren, Courtney Fitzgerald, Kallee Fitzgerald, Jackson Fitzgerald, and Jayson Hamilton. She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Curtis Dowdy who died in October of 2002.
Pallbearers will be members of the Centre Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to the Highland Church of Christ Building Fund, 497 East James Campbell Boulevard, Columbia, Tennessee 38401.
