Mary I. Staggs Brewer

March 30, 1916 — August 16, 2009

Mary I. Brazier Staggs Matlock Brewer, age 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 16, 2009, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brewer will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Steve Swango and Rev. Brandon Stutts officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Born March 30, 1916 in Birmingham, AL, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Bessie Dusenberry Brazier and the wife of the late Ovie Staggs. Affectionately known as "Aunt Bee" or "Granny", Mrs. Brewer graduated from Prospect High School and was a volunteer at Maury Regional Medical Center Gift Shop for 15 years. She was an avid reader of the Bible, a member of Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist since the 1940's and a Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by her daughter: Norma Kenneth "Billy" Hutton of Columbia; grandson: Ronnie Cobb of Nashville; step-daughter: Betty Bowers of Columbia; step-grandson: Tim Bowers of Nashville. She was preceded in death by a grandson: Larry Dewayne "Bubba" Cobb; two sisters: Mattie Ilene Smithson, her twin, and Martha Ingram; 3 brothers.

Pallbearers will be her grandson: Ronnie Cobb and the men of Loyal Freewill Baptist Church: Mark Boshers, Jeff Newsom, Troy Bowers, Walter Stills and Marion Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Staff of Life Care Center and to Dr. Hrishi Kanth.
