Mary Virginia Odom

Mrs. Mary Virginia Chapman Odom, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, at her residence on Elk Ridge Road in Mt. Pleasant surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Odom will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Dalton Cole officiating. Congregational singing will be led by a son-in-law, Terry Chapman.Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 2:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born in Killen, Ala., on June 20, 1928, Virginia was the daughter of the late Henry and Mattie Lillie Wisdom Chapman. Her husband, Kenneth Floyd Odom preceded her in death in 1982. She was a loving wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. Throughout her life, Virginia was one who never met a stranger, whether she was at home, out of state, or even in a doctor's office where she would give words of encouragement to other patients. She loved cooking for her family, working in her garden, then canning or freezing the produce. She loved quilting and had made quilts for all of her children as well as special hand-made quilts for each grandchild when they graduated from high school. Virginia loved the Lord and was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ.

Virginia is survived by her children: Stanley Viola Odom, Sondra Maybern Runions, Marylin Jackie Owen, Lillie Terry Chapman, Dayne Paula Odom, Christy Daryl Rochester, Lorey Danny Davis and Dorey Danny Cupples, all of Mt. Pleasant; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister: Annie Mae "Polly" Workman of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Odom was preceded in death by one grandson: Kenny Odom; one sister: Katie Odom and brothers: Floyd Chapman, Wilson Chapman, Lester Chapman, James Chapman and Brown Chapman.

Pallbearers will be Michael Odom, Rodney Runions, Thad Runions, Kenneth Owen, Sammie Odom, Joel Odom, Wayne Chapman, Daniel Davis, Justin Cupples and Carl Workman. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and brethren of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ.

The family would like to give thanks to a special nurse and caregiver, Pam Holland.
