Mary Juanita Thomason

November 8, 1924 — January 8, 2017

Mary Juanita “Neet” Holt Boshers Thomason was born in Maury County, TN, on November 8, 1924 and died January 8, 2017 at the home of her son, Randy Thomason in Decatur, AL. She was born to Jim and Susie B. Dale Holt and lived in Mt. Pleasant, TN, 84 years. She married her first husband Calvin Lewis Boshers on December 30, 1943. He died December 29, 1952. She and Lewis had one son, Calvin Wayne “Bubba” Boshers, born October 28, 1944 and died October 28, 2001. Neet married Hackney H. Thomason of Mt. Pleasant on July 4, 1957 in Tupelo, MS. They had one daughter, Tena Marie, born December 8, 1958 and died December 10, 1958. They then had a son, Randy H. Thomason, born March 23, 1960.

Neet was the oldest of ten children. She helped raise and care for her siblings while her parents made a living at sharecropping. She played basketball when the court was divided into 3 segments. She played center position. She loved to tell of her days of playing at Hampshire High School.

When Neet turned sixteen, with school permission, she began work at the hosiery mill in Columbia, TN, riding the “Polly” bus to and from work. She never looked back. She said she made too much good money making production to go back and finish school. She retired from the hosiery mill after 30 years and then began work at Wright’s Pharmacy in Mt. Pleasant. She worked there for many years working at the soda fountain counter and behind the medication counter, counting pills and filling medication bottles. After Wright’s Pharmacy was sold, she worked at Fred’s until she was about 78 years old. She has resided with her son and daughter-in-law at their home in Decatur, Al, for the last 8 years.

Her hobbies were growing flowers, crafts and working puzzles. She had a “green thumb” and could make just about anything grow.

Neet is survived by her son, Randy (Sandy) Thomason of Decatur, AL; granddaughters, Amanda (Justin) Cagle of Waldorf, MD and Melissa Boshers Ellis of Smithville, TN; four great-granddaughters, Danyel and Krista Ellis, Hadley and Shelby Cagle; one great-grandson, Johnny Ellis; five great-great-grandchildren, Izaiah, Ethan and Eli McMann, Hailey Ellis and Khalessi Ellis and nieces and nephews.
