Mrs. Mary Ruth Edmonson Carpenter, age 85, of Columbia, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family at Maury Regional Medical Center on Friday, September 25, 2015.
Mary Ruth was born on January 4, 1930 to Lem Richard Edmonson and Annie Maxwell Edmonson in Williamson County, Tennessee. She was a loving wife to George Carpenter who passed away on January 6, 2009. She attended Highland Park Baptist Church in Columbia. Mary Ruth, affectionately known as “MawMaw”, loved and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Amy, Carey, Taylor, Mallory and Reece each held a special place in her heart and she was very proud of them. She was one of the most upbeat, strong and loving persons her family and friends have ever known and loved.
Mary Ruth is survived by her children: Ed (Mary) Carpenter of Ringgold, Georgia and Susan (Darryl) Shuff of Columbia, Tennessee; grandchildren: Amy (Britt) Erwin, Carey Carpenter, Taylor Shuff and Mallory Shuff; great-granddaughter: Reece Erwin; sister: Dorothy Edmonson; sister-in-law: Elizabeth Edmonson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lem Richard Edmonson and Annie Maxwell Edmonson; beloved husband: George Carpenter; brother: L. R. Edmonson; half-brothers: Clyde, Claude, Luther and John and her half-sister: Grace Reed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carpenter will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Mark Proctor and Bro. Wilson Henderson officiating. Entombment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund or Music Ministry, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, Tennessee 38401.
Britt Erwin, Billy Sargent, Bill Reischman, John New, O’Neill Moore, Mark Richards, Blake Hardison and Kenneth Edmonson will serve as pallbearers.
