Mary Jane Matthews, age 65 of Columbia, went to join Jesus in Heaven Friday, September 13, 2013.
Mary was born March 25, 1928 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Willie Matthews and the late Eva Jane Steele. Mary was a member of the Carmack Boulevard Church of Christ. She also enjoyed working at Taco Bell on Trotwood Avenue for fourteen years. She loved spending time with people especially riding the church van with her friends. She was known as the most appreciative lady who was always smiling. If anyone ever performed a task for her they were always given the warmest “Thank You for everything you do for me!” To have known Mary was to love her.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 16, 2013 in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. James Oldham officiating. Visitation will take place from Noon until the service hour. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her sisters: Rosetta Matthews and Elora Matthews; brother: Walter Steele; and several nieces and nephews all of Nashville; house mates and friends: Deborah Stem and Patricia Jane “PJ” Gilliam; special friends: Sharon Kennedy, LaTasha Cooper, Shirley Vester, Angela Russell, Jennifer Gibbs, Yvette Frierson, Tracy Daniels, Billie Coffey, Employees at Trotwood Taco Bell, All Independent Opportunities Staff and her special friends and members of Carmack Boulevard Church of Christ.
Pallbearers will be Randy Fulton, Patrick Buerger, Steve Jacobs, Richard Shaw, Quintis Porter and Anthony Washington.
Friends and family of Mrs. Mary would like to express a special “thank you” to her long term caregivers Dr. Shawn Gentry, Allison Rolston PA, special nurse Elaine Miles, ICU at Maury Regional Medical Center, Dr. Marc Rosenthal, Dr. Candice Olechawski, Dr. Robert Lee, and all of the doctors and nurses at Vanderbilt University Medical Center MICU.
