Mary Massey Kotewa passed away on September 26, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was raised in Maury County by the late Mr. and Mrs. John Frost who were her grandparents. Mary was a wonderful mother and grandmother, having raised her children together with her first husband, Howard Eugene Massey who preceded her in death. Her family remembers that she was a happy lady who loved her kids, and especially her grandchildren.
She loved Gatlinburg and her family was able to take her there shortly before she passed away and create sweet memories together. Some of her favorite hobbies were shopping, crossword puzzles and playing solitaire on the computer. In the words of her daughter, Mary was just a sweetheart. Her son said that she raised them to take care of each other when they had problems. They were very close to her and each other because of her teaching.
She and her great-grandson Michael Anthony Lindsey, III loved watching “Bubba” on In the Heat of the Night every day. She also loved her “boys”, her dogs and cats. It didn’t matter if it was a male or female animal, she always called out, “come and get it, boys!” when she fed them. She really loved sitting on the porch watching them eat. She also enjoyed her weekly, Tuesday morning visits with her pastor, Bro. Bob Mullinex.
Mary Massey Kotewa is survived by her children: Stanley Howard (Christy) Massey and Jane Massey, both of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughter: Jessica Massey; great-grandson: Michael Anthony Lindsey, III; and special friends: Brittney Massey Goodwin and Bro. Bob Mullinex. In addition to her grandparents who raised her and her first husband and father of her children, she is preceded in death by her second husband: Gary Kotewa; and her special friend: Dot Foster.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kotewa will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Bob Mullinex officiating.
