Mrs. Mary Doty Smith Nelson Goempel, 70, a resident of Couch Lane in Columbia passed away Monday at Life Care Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday June 11, 2010 at Allen Funeral Home in Davison Michigan. Burial will follow in the Davison Cemetery.
Mary was born June 11, 1939 in Otter Lake, Michigan and was the daughter of the late George and Harriet King Doty. She was the wife of John Goempel who preceded her in death. Mary was a sitter for the elderly and a very faithful christian lady. She attended the Christ Church of Columbia. A longtime resident of Winter Haven, Florida , she was in a Nursing Home where she obtained the name the Night Rider. At night she would go from room to room ministering to the people.
Survivors include her children: Irene Andy Calcagno of Columbia, TN and John Lori Smith of Davison, MI; step-daughter: Mary Nelson Arce of Holly, MI; a sister: Myrtle Rick Powell of Lapeer, MI; grandchildren: Tianna Calcagno of Nashville, TN and Craig Calcagno of Cookeville, TN; five step-children.
She was preceded in death by George Smith, her first husband of 21 years and the father of Irene Calcagno and John Smith. She was also preceded in death by her second husband of 21 years Lavern Nelson.
Williams Funeral Home of Columbia is assisting the family with the arrangements.
