Mary Dixie Godwin

Mary Dixie Godwin, age 88 of Columbia, TN, formerly of Summertown, passed on to her heavenly reward on December 1st, 2013.

She was a loving mother and cherished grandmother. She never failed to have a hug and an, "I love you," ready. Her earnest nature, wealth of selflessness and welcoming, warm smile will be sorely missed by all whom knew her. She contributed to many charities such as Saint Jude's Childrens' Hospital, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and Special Olympics. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where she worked for many years. She also worked for Bank of America and Sears in her younger years.

Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Thursday December 5th from four until eight in the evening, with services being held of Friday morning December 6th at ten. Burial will be following services at Chapel Grove Church Cemetery in Summertown.

She survived by two daughters: Barbara Dabbs Collett and husband Tony Collett of Decatur and Perry Counties with their children Ken Morgan, Michelle Morgan, and Derek Collett. Her youngest daughter Tamara Godwin Hughes and husband Larry Hughes of Summertown with their children Tim Vincent, Marisa Hughes, Jacqueline Hughes, Luke Hughes, Joshua Hughes and Nathan Hughes. Also survived by great grandchildren Samantha Morgan, Shelly Daniel, Madison Morgan, Peyton Collett, Caiden and Oliver Potts, Tyler and Megan Hughes. As well as great grandchildren, she had one great-great grandchild, Joshua Timms. Additionally she was survived by nieces Linda Odom of White Bluff, TN, Marcia Holder of Linden, TN, and nephews Alton Godwin of Owen, KY, and Chad Cranfield of Pleasantfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by her mother Clara King Godwin, father Webb Alfred Godwin, Sr., her brothers Webb A. Godwin, Jr. and William Brown Godwin and grandson Trace Morgan, husbands; Orvie “Cat” Walker Dobbs and Phillip Joseph Weeks.
