Mary Evelyn Massey

Mrs. Mary Evelyn "Runt" Staggs Massey was born March 10, 1937 in Maury County, the daughter of the late Britton Staggs and Louise Eksteen Staggs.
On May 3, 1953 she married M. H. "Cotton" Massey and they enjoyed nearly 58 wonderful years together. Evelyn had worked as a saleslady at Hunter's Furniture Store and Beau Mont Furniture Store, both in Columbia and for Keith's Flowers in Mt. Pleasant. She and Cotton enjoyed the many hours they spent together camping. Evelyn had a love for gardening and the outdoors. Those dearest to her heart were her family and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was a member of the North Main Street Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.
Evelyn passed away on Thursday morning, March 24, at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Evelyn is survived not only by her husband, Cotton, but also by her children: Rickey Terry Massey and Rodney Massey, both of Mt. Pleasant; grandsons; Drew Massey and Adam Jennifer Massey, both of Columbia; great-granddaughters: Addison Grace Massey and Hope Elizabeth Massey; one sister: Faye C.D. Sizemore of Goodlettsville; a niece, Cathy Steve Newell of Goodlettsville and a nephew, Ronnie Staggs of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Staggs.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Jimmy Peyton and Bob Mullenix officiating. Entombment will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will visit with friends on Friday from 4:00 ? 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Drew Massey, Adam Massey, Ronnie Staggs, Steve Newell, Sherman Massey, Vernon White, Ray McCain and Wayne Dugger. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mt. Pleasant Fire and Police Departments, Horace Dawson, John Swaner, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Murray, Patti Henson, Tracey R. Hines, Roger Hay, John Langford, Dr. Dana Chandler, Byron Jones, Terry Williams, Kyle Thomas, Jeff Tietgens, Charles Staggs, Pee Wee Staggs, Randy Staggs, and Eddie Wayne Whitwell.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Maury County Unit, P.O. Box 1864, Columbia, TN 38402.
