Mary Ella Hinson McKnight, age 71, passed away on June 3, 2019 at her home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Ella was born August 8, 1947 in Franklin, Tennessee to the late Walter Thomas Hinson and Annie Elizabeth Hinson. She and her family moved to Mt Pleasant when she was in the ninth grade where she was a cheerleader at Haylong High School. She met Jerry D. “Cotton” McKnight in high school (he was quarterback for the football team) and they married on September 27, 1964. She was a loving homemaker for many years and worked at the Mt Pleasant police department in records and dispatch. She also worked at Maury County Tobacco warehouse and owned and operated The Frame Shop in Mt Pleasant for several years. Mary Ella loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Her home was the place to gather for delicious home cooking and sitting around the table talking and making new memories and talking about past memories. She had the knack of making everyone feel at home and welcome. She was a devoted Christian woman who loved her Main Street Church of Christ family.
She is survived by her husband: Jerry “Cotton” McKnight; son: Heath (Kim) McKnight; daughter: Tonya S. (Roger) Kelly; grandchildren: Tess (Johnathon) Hooper, Nicholas Harris and Maggie McKnight; great grandson: Luke Hooper; brother: Thomas (Bubba) Kevin (Sandra) Hinson; special family members, sister-in-law: Retha Wood; Carolyn (Gene) Craig, Cathy (Jimmy) Andrews; sister-in-law: Judy McKnight; brothers-in-law: Mike (Renee) McKnight and Roland (Mary Ann) McKnight.
Family will visit with friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Williams Funeral Home, Mt Pleasant. Services will be Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Main Street Church of Christ, Mt Pleasant, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
