Mary Louise “Duby” Beckum, age 73 and a longtime resident of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, April 2, 2015.
Duby was born September 1, 1941 in Maury County, Tennessee to Odie Richard “Buzz” Cothran and Lena Pearl Roberts Cothran. She married the love of her life, Bobby Beckum, on April 2, 1961 and together they shared almost 33 years. It was fitting they were reunited on their anniversary. Duby’s family was everything to her and she always put friends and family before herself. Duby was a member at First United Methodist Church.
Duby’s hard working hands began at the early age of 16, and continued throughout her life. She worked many years at Wright’s Pharmacy and Lumpy’s in Mt. Pleasant. Duby retired from Williams Funeral Home in 2014 as the secretary after 17 years of service to families. Around the office she was much more than a secretary, she was the in-house genealogist, everyone’s reference of knowledge, and historian. Duby went above and beyond at any task; she excelled at whatever was placed in front of her earning her The Dove Award in 2009. Duby was active in the Mt. Pleasant Lion’s Club and Maury County Business Women’s Association.
Duby is survived by her beloved children, Donna Kay Pugh and Chris R. Beckum both of Mt. Pleasant; precious grandchildren, Derek (Christy) Pugh, Levi (Jennifer) Pugh, Kendall (Amanda) Pugh, Anthony Morales, and Christian Beckum; great grandchildren, Grace Norman, Hannah Pugh, Carley Pugh, and Hayden Pugh; very special cousin, Lena Mai Craig; sisters-in-law, Joy (Edward) Wauford, Floy Mobbs, and Eva Coffey; Kendall’s Father, Horace “Toy” Pugh; daughter in law, Becky Beckum; many special cousins and several dear friends.
Duby was preceded in death by her parents, Odie Richard “Buzz” and Lena Pearl Roberts Cothran and her husband Bobby Beckum.
The family will visit with friends on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Kent Cummins, Daryl Bassham, David “Duck” Lovell, Pete Tracey, and Tony Morales. Honorary Pallbearers will be Keith Cummins, Jimmy Grooms, Willie Brown, Mike Craig, Danny Grooms, members of Mt. Pleasant Lion’s Club, and the employees of Williams Funeral Home.
