Mrs. Mary Church Buckner, age 84, resident of Preacher Holt Road in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010 at her residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Buckner will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 22, 2010 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Bro. Ed Murphy, Bro. Ewing Neely and Bro. Jack White officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

The Buckner family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Born August 12, 1926 in Williamson County, she was the daughter of the late Abram Baker and Willie Mae Southall Church. She was the wife of Hugh Clinton H.C. Buckner of Mt. Pleasant. They were married for 66 years. She attended Spring Hill High School. Mrs. Buckner was a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She really enjoyed reading books and magazines. She enjoyed the western series by Louis L Amour and the Readers Digest. She was a member of the Porter s Chapel Friendship Club and the Mt. Pleasant Friendship Club. Mrs. Buckner was a member of the Bethel Church of Christ of the Southport Community.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Marvin Janice Buckner of Columbia and William Pam Buckner of Mt. Pleasant; daughters, Gaile Flansburg of Lebanon and Shirley Dallas Sparks of Columbia; grandchildren, Brian Danielle Buckner of Tullahoma, Tracey Buckner of Columbia, Monica Sparks Cromer of Columbia, Darryl Kristen Sparks of Waco, Texas, Bianca Buckner of Nashville, Abram Flansburg of Katy, Texas and Mattie Flansburg of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Cason, Brennan and McKenna Buckner of Tullahoma, Chase and Ashton Cromer of Columbia, Rozelin Flansburg of Katy, Texas and James Noah Sparks of Waco, Texas.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Reba Schmidt, foster brother, W. D. Rosie Roseberry, Sr. and grandson, Jared Buckner.

Active pallbearers will be Brian Buckner, Darryl Sparks, Joe Schmidt, Johnnie Schmidt, Clem Fisher, Ralph Spann, Jimmy Burgett and Josh Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Amit Choksi, Dr. Angela Joynes, Dr. Moatez Toban, the member of Bethel Church of Christ, neighbors Len and Sis Scheltmeyer, Sonny and Pat Nelson, Ron and Linda Nelson, Angela and Jenny Burgett, James and Evelyn Burgett, Dotty Green, Georgia and Hannah Raines, Eulala Jones Anderson, Elizabeth Sparkman Inman, Betty Kersey, Linda and Frank Duncan.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jared s Dream through the Civitan Club.

The Buckner family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice Compassus and Jeanette Mayfield for the wonderful care they gave to Mrs. Buckner.
