Marvin Wood

April 18, 1936 — February 3, 2011

Mr. Marvin Wood, age 74, a resident of Zion Road in Columbia, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Born April 18, 1936 in Maury County, son of the late James Wood and Martha Louise Chumley Wood Giles and the husband of Thelma Massey Wood. He retired from the maintenance department of Union Carbide. Mr. Wood was an avid lover of hunting and fishing and he built his own fish pond and loved working in it. He was an active deacon and chairman of the deacon board of Allensville Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Wood is survived by his sons: Jimmy Carol Wood of the Glendale Community and Billy Tena Wood of Mt. Pleasant; sisters: Wilma Simpson of Ypsilanti, MI and Barbara Ahee of Shelby Township, MI; grandchildren: Jason Wood, Michelle Wood, Kim Wood, Michael Sandi Wood; great grandchildren: Brianna Wood, Driston Collins, Kenady Johnson, Krislin Johnson, Emri Gonzales, Eden Wood, Evan Wood, Kaelyn Hanlon and Justin Morrow. He was preceded in death by his sister: Effie Wood and his step-father: J.P. Giles.

Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Elmer Crosby officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Tucker, Pat Tucker, Billy Huckaby, Randy Fitzgerald, Luke McCoy and Dwayne Andrews. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Allensville Baptist Church, past and present maintenance department employees of Union Carbide Dr. Rinehart and the nurses of ICU Stepdown at Maury Regional Medical Center.
