Martha Ann (Phillips) Jones, 87, died Thursday evening, March 14th, at the Lifecare Center of Columbia.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, TN. Visitation will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. with services to immediately follow. Burial will take place at Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbia.
Martha was born on October 8, 1925 in Jackson, Tn, daughter of Frances Clementine and Charles Ernest Phillips. She attended Lambeth College and later worked at Carroll Paper Company in Jackson. In 1947, she married John Allen Jones and moved to Toone, Tn (Hardeman County), reared three children and resided there for over 22 years. During that time, she worked for Tennessee Farm Bureau Insurance; County Court Clerk, Hardeman County, and Western State Mental Hospital as Director of Volunteer Services. Here she initiated the first volunteer and “Candy Striper” programs at Western State. In 1969 she and Allen moved to Columbia, TN. There, she worked for The Council on Aging, Volunteer Services, Middle Tennessee Region; and later at International Travels, Nashville, TN. She was an active member in the Jane Knox Chapter DAR in Columbia. She and Allen recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She is a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia, TN.
Survivors include her Husband, Allen Jones, who currently resides at The Bridge at Columbia; three Children; Charles Jones of Middlesboro, KY; Patricia Landry and husband Ed Landry of Robertsdale, Al; and Becky Gahr and husband Dan Gahr of Clarksville, VA; six Grandchildren; Amy Hassinger and husband Jim of Aberdeen, NC; Kimberly Peacock and husband Justin of Fairhope, AL; Travis Jones and wife Rachel of Oak Ridge, TN; Lindsay Gahr and husband Noah Marlier of Philadelphia, PA; and Aaron Gahr of Charlottesville, VA.; Seven great-Grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler and Natalie Peacock; Evan Miles; Thaddeus and Elias Jones; and Oliver Marlier.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to Barbara Barrier, Hohenwald, TN, for her dedication, kindness, care and attention in assisting Mother over these past years. We would also like to express our thanks and appreciation to all other Caregivers who assisted Mother in various activities of daily living while she resided at The Bridge at Columbia.
