Martha Jo Cooper Mayberry departed this life to join her Lord and Savior along with our daddy her very best friend and many other loved ones on August 18, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mayberry will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Gene Shelton and Rev. Brian Wiesinger officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.

She was the daughter of the late Moncy Thomas Cooper and Polly Jane Tatum Cooper of Wayne County. She was born April 29, 1929 in Wayne County where she attended school. She met and married her life long best friend July 4, 1947, James W. Mayberry, Jr., who went to be with the Lord October 27, 2007.

Martha Jo was a wonderful Christian lady who loved everyone and in better health times spent hours visiting the sick and shut ins with her buddy, Dot Griffy with whom she shared many tears and laughs. She loved her family and friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand or be sure to lift you up to her Savior in prayer.

She loved to sew and read, also work in her flowers. She and J.W. loved to go fishing and camping in better days. She taught Sunday School many years and attended Grace Church of the Nazarene where she and J.W. made many friends.

She was a wonderful mother and a great example of what a Christian should be to her children and everyone who met her.

She was honored and blessed in these last few months of life to share laughs and sorrows with a wonderful caregiver and special friend, Coretha Nichols.

Survivors include her children: Glenda Eddie Glasco of Columbia, Ricky Joe Mayberry of Columbia and Robin Randy Nichols of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Scott Rebecca Nichols, Eric Beth Nichols, Jonathan Mayberry, Michael Stephanie Mayberry and Jesse Brittney Nichols; two sisters: Lockie Sharp of Hohenwald and Jewell Loveless of Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Walton Thompson, C.R. baker, Freddie Holt, Jerry Whitten, Jerry Churchwell and Bill Barnes. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Grace Church of the Nazarene.

The family wishes to express special gratitude to the Hospice of the Highland Rim. Dr. Howard Jones, III and the staff of Vanderbilt Gynecology and Oncology Department.
