Martha Abernathy Rogers

February 20, 1914 — August 1, 2005

Mrs. Martha Ruth Abernathy Rogers, 91 , a resident of Alterra Sterling House and formerly of Richardson Street in Columbia, died Monday, August 1, 2005 at Columbia Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rogers will be conducted Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Daniel Vannoy officiating. Burial will be in the Dunavant Cemetery in Giles County. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Floy Birdsong Abernathy and was the widow of Elias E. Rogers. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Church of Christ.

She is survived by five daughters, Dorothy Headden and Barbara Jimmy Rowland both of Columbia, TN, Virginia James Sanders and Bonnie Terry Lester both of Culleoka, TN, and Betty Layne McClendon of Mt. Pleasant, TN; three sons, William Eugene ?Bud? Rogers, John D. Melba Rogers, and Ronald Clark Sonya Rogers all of Columbia, TN; a step sister, Ruby Ross of Pulaski, TN; twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Cline ?Andy? Rogers; two grandsons, Steve McClendon and Shane Sanders; a great grandson, Daniel Cervantez.

Pallbearers will be Louis Lester, Jr., Allen Uselton, Timothy Kelley, Joey McClendon, Kevin Rogers, Mike Rogers, Andy Rogers, Mark Rogers, and Dale Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Alterra Sterling House, members of the Pentecostal Church of Christ and Faith Pentecostal Church.
