Mark Anthony Hafner, 61, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to those for whom he cared.
Born with a brilliant mind and an infectious sense of humor, Mark had a unique gift for finding joy in everyday life and sharing it with those around him. He was known not only for his intelligence but for his unwavering work ethic—traits he carried from a young age and continued throughout his life. Mark was the kind of person who lifted others up, always encouraging those around him to grow and succeed. He was a true friend, a devoted family man, and someone who showed up when it mattered most.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Frank John Hafner. He is survived by his loving wife, Tania Oropesa; his devoted mother and stepfather, Dottie and Jim Kerkan; sister, Corrine Yeager; and his cherished children Jennifer Nicholson, Matthew Hafner, and Suzanne Hafner. He also lovingly embraced his stepchildren Erica Vandiver, Trevor Vandiver, Brandon Oropesa, and Olivia Oropesa as his own.
Mark’s role as a grandfather brought him some of his greatest joy. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Preston Miles Nicholson, Maya Marie Nicholson, Brixton William Bullis Hafner, Carson Denver Bullis, Emery Noel Wilson, and Tate Judd Wilson.
A lifelong learner and adventurer, Mark found fulfillment in exploring the world through travel, both across the country and overseas. He had a special love for water diving, finding peace and wonder beneath the waves.
Mark’s legacy lives on in the laughter he inspired, the wisdom he shared, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His spirit will continue to guide and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Mark by giving to the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Tennessee (210 West 8th Street, Columbia, TN).
