Marian Elizabeth Mcewen Alexander

Marian Elizabeth McEwen Alexander, age 94, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away January 2, 2015 after several years of declining health.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Arlington Cemetery on Monday, January 5, 2015 with Rev. Jeff Kane officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. until service time at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.

She was born in Columbia on September 12, 1920 to the late William Theodoric and Alice Fleming McEwen. She was married on December 2, 1943 to the late Clarence Fussell Alexander, Jr., a World War II veteran. She graduated from Central High School in 1938 and attended Cumberland University. Marian was a former employee of The Daily Herald and Victor Chemical Company. She was a homemaker for many years, and she was a volunteer for the United Service Organization during WWII. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Alice Cook and Margaret Buchanan and three brothers: William McEwen, Thomas McEwen, and James McEwen.

She is survived by four children: Alexandria Quinn of Spartanburg, SC, Angela (Jim) Milan of Hohenwald, C.F. Alexander III, and William Daniel (Bill) Alexander of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren: Elizabeth (Sammy) McCanless of Columbia, Richard (Judy) Pettus of Ocala, FL, Amanda (Brent) Smith of Bell Buckle, and Amelia (Eric) Evans of Murfreesboro; and four great-grandchildren: Karsyn and Brady McCanless of Columbia, Gunnar Pettus of Ocala, FL, and Georgia Evans of Murfreesboro.

Active pallbearers are Michael Cook, William M. Cook Jr., Zachary Cook, Tommy McEwen, Steve McEwen, Jimmy McEwen, Sammy McCanless, Richard Pettus, Brent Smith, and Eric Evans.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Cummins Couch, Dr. Charles Ball, Dr. Doug Kennedy, Dr. Brandon Busbee and Dr. Trent Wallace of TN Retina, Dr. Michael Tyler, Karen Perry NP, classmates from the Class of 1938 Central High School, and the compassionate staffs of Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehab Center, Maury Regional Hospital, Careall Home Care Services, and Caris Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
