Marguerite A. Hardison, age 96, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on July 1, 2016 at Brookside Health Care in Huntsville, Alabama.
Marguerite was born on May 7, 1920 to Willie Allen and Lena Boshers Allen in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. On September 5, 1941 she married the love of her life, Leon Guyman Hardison, when they eloped right before he left to join the U. S. Navy during World War II. Upon his safe and happy return after the war, they attended college together at Memphis State. Marguerite graduated and began her teaching career. She taught elementary school in Memphis City Schools where she finished her career there by serving as assistant principal. She was of the Baptist faith. She completed crossword puzzles in the paper in ink daily. Marguerite liked to read her Bible and loved to cook. She taught “her girls” how to cook and always made sure she had everyone’s favorite dish. As the matriarch of her family, Marguerite was dedicated to the ones she loved.
The family will visit with friends Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Vassar officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Marguerite is survived by her great nephew Jeff (Lisa) Skillern of Madison, Alabama; great-great nieces Olivia, Sarah Grace, Gabrielle Skillern whom she loved like her own grandchildren; nephews Phil (Mary) Skillern of Jacksonville, Florida, Danny Carter of Nashville, Tennessee, David Carter of Nashville, Tennessee, Billy Ray (Julie Ann) Allen of Raleigh, North Carolina; and several other great-nieces and nephews.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings Flossie Allen Carter, John Ed Allen, Evelyn A. “Becky” Richmond.
