Mrs. Margaret Alice Shackelford Simmons, age 66, of Columbia, passed away in Albertville, Alabama following an illness, surrounded by her family.
Margaret was born on October 3, 1947, to the late Gene Shackelford and the late Lillian Bovelle Shackelford in Columbia, Tennessee. She was the widow of the late Robert Harold Simmons. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church. Her career focused on clerical and accounting. She kept books for H&R Block and did accounting for a few small businesses.
Margaret loved gardening and working in her yard, as she loved flowers. She enjoyed bowling and tennis. Any opportunity to be outdoors was right up her alley as she was a very active person.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughter: Lacey (Al) White; grandsons Lee and Luke White; sisters: Janice (Wayne) Peregoy, Susan (Rett) Bean, and Linda (David) Raymond; and nieces and nephews: Tyler (Chris) Olive, Matt (Brandy) Roberts, Miki (Darren) Culp, Melanie Hollis, Perry (Tiki) Bean, Ashley Bean and Whitney (Damon) Delapotaire. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son: Robert Lee Simmons; niece: Meg Hollis and nephew: Chris Bean.
Funeral services for Margaret will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Presbyterian Church with Reverend Joey Cannady officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Churchyard. The family will visit with friends on Monday, September 15, 2014 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
