Lurlyne Allen

Lurlyne ?Maggie? Allen, 84, resident of Lebanon and Mt. Pleasant, TN, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at Maury Regional Hospital, Columbia, TN. She had lived in Alaska for forty years, and was the retired comptroller for The Anchorage Daily News, Anchorage Alaska.

The late Mrs. Kay Fanning, owner and publisher of The Anchorage Daily News and Lurlyne?s last employer said this about her: ?When Lurlyne settled in at the Daily News building on Post Road, we knew we had finally found the right person. She was calm, cheerful, familiar with Alaskan ways, and no amount of chaos seemed to unnerve her. . .We felt the ship beginning to steady itself.? Kay Fannings? Born in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 20, 1923 she was the daughter of the late William Willie Thomas Allen and Viola Eskew Holloway Allen. Her career as an accountant took her to Nashville and Lebanon, TN; Los Angeles, CA; Nevada, Alaska and Japan. She was a member of College Hills Church of Christ in Lebanon, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Catherine Holloway Clark, Rubye Holloway Alsup, and Bessie Allen Baker; and brothers, Aldie G. Holloway, Bill Allen, Dennis Allen, and Douglas F. Allen. Immediate survivors include nieces, Marynelle Alsup Criswell Jim of Columbia; Maxine Holloway Morton of Searcy, AR; Rebecca Holloway Cretsinger Will of Arlington, TX; nephews, Nelson R. Alsup of Orlando, FL; and Bill Allen of Nashville, TN; and a cousin, Frances Craig of Columbia. Other survivors include great nieces and great nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Cremation interment will be conducted at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, TN., at a later date.
