Lula Mary Davis Newsom was born January 29, 1912 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late Rush Davis and Minnie Stewart Davis. Mrs. Newsom was a lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant and was the wife of the late Johnnie L. Newsom. Lula was a homemaker and had her hands full with raising her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren recall that she never wore glasses and had eyesight better than an eagle. Lula was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Billy Shirley Richardson of Lawrenceburg, Leon Alleaser Hegwood of Chicago, IL Leonard Cynthia Hegwood of Chicago, IL and Gwen Richardson of Tucker, GA; 11 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren and a very devoted niece, Betty Jean Shield of Nashville along with a host of friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Louise Richardson and her son, Robert L. Richardson, three sisters, Dorothy Nell, Betty and Beatrice "Kitten".
Lula passed away on Saturday morning at Crockett Hospital in Lawrenceburg following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 Noon at Williams Funeral Home in Mt Pleasant with her family sharing their memories. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until time of the service at Noon at the funeral home.
