Mr. Lucius Edwards, Jr., 92 , a long time resident of the Hampshire Pike in Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Edwards will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 21 at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 5:00 ? 8:00 P.M. p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The Maury County native was the son of the late Lucius Hendley Edwards, Sr., and Hattie Hudgins Edwards. He was the husband of Dorothy ?Dot? Murphy Edwards, whom he married on December 24, 1948. He graduated from Cross Bridges School. He was a retired cattle and tobacco farmer and had worked for many years at the Tobacco Warehouse in Mt. Pleasant. He served on the boards of the Maury Farmers Co-Op, Maury Co. Farm Bureau and Maury Co. ASCS. He was a member of the Locust Street Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.
Survivors in addition to his wife include one son: Hendley Beverly Edwards III of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren: Luc H. Edwards IV and Lauren Edwards, both of Mt. Pleasant; one brother: Harry Edwards of Spring Hill. He was preceded in death by two brothers: J.T. and Mack Edwards.
Active pallbearers will be nephews: Johnny Edwards, David Edwards, Neil Gibson, Jerry Douglas, William Edwards, Harry Edwards, Jr., Paul Edwards, Phil Bennett, and John Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Monty Bayless, Ron Dinwiddie, Randy Kersey, George Roger Gilliam, Pete Brooks, Ed Pullen, Dick Conner, Board members of the Maury Co. Farm Bureau and Maury Farmers Co-Op, Recipients of the Lucius Edwards "Belief in Agriculture" Award and the staff of the South Hall of Life Care Center.
Memorial donations may be made to the Locust Street Church of Christ Library Fund or the Mt. Pleasant High School Agriculture Department.
