Louise Harlan King

Louise Harlan King, former resident of Harris Street, died December 27th, 2013 at the Sterling House Assisted Living facility. She had celebrated her 95th birthday on December 20th.
A private graveside service will be conducted Monday, December 30th at 10:00 a.m. with John Vaughan officiating at Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family requests memorials be made to Hospice Compassus, 1412 Trotwood Ave., Suite 5, Columbia, TN. Appreciation is expressed to Hospice Compassus for the comfort provided Louise and family.
Born in Lawrence County, TN, she was the daughter of the late James Ruben Harlan and Hattie Williams Harlan. She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Louise was educated in the Lawrence County School System and was retired from Edric Mfg. Her hobbies were flower gardening, quilting, crocheting, crewel, needlepoint, cooking, and entertaining. Louise enjoyed traveling and visited every state, with the exception of Alaska.
On May 29, 1937 she married Vernon R. King of Rogersville, AL, who preceded her in death January 10, 2008. They were delighted to have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2007.
Louise and Vernon were long time members of Graymere Church of Christ, where Louise helped teach in the children’s classes.
Survivors include her daughter, Shelvia Jean Hurt and son-in-law, Walter Johnson Hurt. Also, surviving is grandson, Michael Alexander Hurt and wife, Rachel Vick Hurt along with two great granddaughters, Phoebe Claire Hurt and Margaret Harlan Hurt. Survivors, also, include numerous out-of-state nieces and nephews.
Appreciation is expressed to the Sterling House Staff for the kind and compassionate care and provided over the past seven years.
