Mr. Louis A. ?Lou? Ruckgaber, Jr., 73, a
resident of Kippsford Pond Road of Columbia died Wednesday September 24, 2003 at Hillview Nursing Home.
Funeral services for Mr. Ruckgaber will be conducted Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church with Father Tom Wilson officiating. Entombment will be in Polk Memorial Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p. m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home, and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Parrish Hall at St. Peters.
The Brooklyn, New York native was the son of the late Louis Ruckgaber, Sr. and Elizabeth Foster Smith Ruckgaber. He was the husband of Donna Lee Chalker Ruckgaber. He was President of the Egyptian Lacquer Manufacturing Company in Franklin, TN. He was on the Board of Directors of National Paint & Coatings association, Writing Instrument Manufacturing Association and Verlan Insurance Company.
He graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1948, a B.S. Degree from Yale University in 1952 and attended Harvard Business School. He was the President of Planned Parenthood in New Jersey and President of Community Concert Series in Columbia, TN. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict.
In addition to his wife of seventeen years, he is survived by a daughter, Wendy John Lawrence of Moscow, Idaho; a son, Louis ?Chip? Ruckgaber III of Boulder, Colorado; a stepson, Todd Kerri Nelson of Kennesaw,
Georgia; three granddaughters, Karen Lawrence, Victoria Nelson and Gabrielle
Nelson; two sisters, Clare Ruckgaber of Floral Park, New York and Paula William McLeod of Kenilworth, Illinois.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Curtis, Joe Gibson, William Pigg, George Brewer, Todd Nelson, Louis Ruckgaber III, John Lawrence and Kerry Mattox.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Egyptian Lacquer Company, members of the Men?s Golf Association of Graymere Country
Club and Navy buddies who served with him on the USS Furse.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Memorial Fund of St. Peters Episcopal Church.
