Lorene Josephine “Josie” Sykes, age 95, of Smyrna, passed away Thursday, January 07, 2016, at Diversicare in Smyrna, Tennessee.
Josie was born January 29, 1920, in Pocahontas, Arkansas to the late Charlie Sulfate and Matilda Jones Turner of Arkansas. Josie was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Washum of Arkansas; her second husband, James Ballard of Arkansas, her third husband, Bill Hutchinson of Mississippi, and her last husband, Charlie Lewis Sykes. Josie worked as an entrepreneur in the food and hospitality industry throughout her lifetime.
A private service will be held by her family at a later date.
Josie is survived by her niece, Charlene Elizabeth Jones of Smyrna, Tennessee; great niece: Sherry Elizabeth Redman of Nolensville, Tennessee and Phyllis Marlene Boshears (Jason) of Franklin, Tennessee; great-great nieces and nephews: Lara Redman, Alan Redman, Emilene Boshears, Alex Boshears, Charlie Boshears, and numerous other beloved kinfolk.
Josie will be missed for her quick wit, great humor, sense of fashion, and carefree spirit. Josie often bluntly remarked to those around her who weren’t doing right—that she was “going to kick them in the rear.”
