Lorene Mangrum Haywood, age 100, of Columbia, passed away at NHC Columbia, just a few days after reaching her 100th birthday, on January 26, 2019.
Lorene was born on January 11, 1919, in Columbia, Tennessee, to Oscar Elijah Mangrum and Gennie Eula Blackwell Mangrum. She worked for many years in the Highland Park Elementary School office – until she reached the age of 80. She loved planting and caring for her flower garden. Having a green thumb, begonias, tulips, and rosebushes were some of her favorites. She loved cooking and baking, and especially loved being with her family and friends. She was a determined lady who loved working and continued to drive until she was 93. She attended Highland Church of Christ.
Surviving Lorene are her children: Linda Faye Long of Columbia, Sandra (Ted) Ring of Columbia, and Roger (Sonya) Haywood of Brentwood; grandchildren: Jeffrey Wayne (Rhonda) Boyd, Crystal Long, Melissa “Lisa” Ring, Stephen Ring, Jessica Lynn Bailey, and Michael Aaron Haywood; great-grandchildren: James Adam Boyd, Robert Benton Boyd, Joshua Allen Ring, Triston Shaw Long, Bentley Allen Ring, Jadon Michael Weatherford, Maddox Aaron Bailey, Gavin Jase Bailey, Corey Chapman, and Cailey Chapman; eight great-great grandchildren; 3 special nieces: Barbara McCord, Jane Merlin, and Jackie Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents: Oscar and Gennie Mangrum; 10 siblings; and one great-granddaughter: Ember Ma’ree Boyd.
The family would like to give special thanks to NHC Columbia, Dr. Charles Ball, and Caris Hospice for the outstanding care given to their mother.
Funeral services for Mrs. Haywood will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 12 Noon until service time at 2:00 p.m., also at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: Triston Long, Michael Haywood, Jeff Boyd, Stephen Ring, Josh Ring, Adam Boyd, and Robert Boyd.
