Lloyd Raymond Powell

October 20, 1921 — January 12, 2003

Mr. Lloyd R. Powell, 81, a resident of Wall Street in Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Summertown, died Sunday January 12, 2003 at Life Care Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Powell will be conducted Tuesday January 14, 2003 at 2:30 pm at the Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Randy Kersey officiating. Burial will follow in the Arlington Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post # 10. The family will receive friends Monday from 2:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral Home.

The Lawrence County native was of the son of the late Lewis R. and Janie Henson Powell and the husband of the late Willie I. Jones Powell. He was a retired mechanic for the Lawrence County Board of Education and a member of the South Side Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He is survived by one daughter, Peggy Ricky Greene of Gallatin; two sons, Bobby Lydia Powell of Columbia and Kenneth Betty Powell of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Bessie Adams of Summertown and Ruth Freeman of Lawrenceburg; two granddaughters, Kim James Bracken of Gallatin and Angela Davis Berry of Athens, Alabama; one grandson, Darrell Brenda King of Mt. Pleasant; one great-grandson, Garrett Bracken of Gallatin; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Farris Powell; two sisters, Ruby Skinner and Gladys Gray; a grandson, Allen Powell.

Active pallbearers will be Charles Thornton, Billy Smith, Bobby Moore, Ray O'Neal, Bob Burns, Carl Adams, Jimmy Freeman, and Charles Dale.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Cummins Couch, Dr. Lucy Dirr
Ledbetter, Dr. Amit Choksi, and Billy Holloway.
