Lillian Gay Edwards Hayes “Memommer”, 67, was born in Summertown, TN, to the late Hoyt and Dorthy Edwards on November 9, 1948. She passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Lillian loved flowers. She also loved traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, to the Carribean and anywhere in between. From flip flops to crafting, she took life and lived it. She was a gifted seamstress making every dress in her daughter Michelle’s wedding. She loved watching tennis so much, that they took her to the U.S. Open in New York to watch the matches. Lillian was simply passionate about life.
Lillian met and married the love of her life, Dalton Hayes, at a young age. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in July. She was a longtime member of Summertown Baptist Church.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hayes will be at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, August 10th at 2:00 PM with Bro. Howard Kitter officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, August 9th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Survivors for Lillian include her husband: Dalton Hayes of Summertown; daughters: Millicent Hayes and Michelle (Keith) Jennings of Summertown; grandchildren: Devon Jennings of Knoxville and Garrett Jennings of Chattanooga; brother: Hoyt Lee (Fay) Edwards of Summertown; nieces: Kendra Sharpe and Marisa (Robb) Clark; great-nephew: Kendall Sharpe; adopted granddaughter: Emily Sigler; and her faithful companions, Jingles and Koda.
