Lillian was born in the small community of Overall in Rutherford County on October 24, 1924. She was the first of four daughters born to the late James Thomas (Buck) Smith and Ethel Kemp Smith. She said her parents were the best and worked hard to teach their daughters to respect each other, appreciate their home and love one another.

In 1936, her family moved to Maury County. She attended school at Rockvale in Rutherford County, Spring Hill in Maury County and Columbia Business College. In 1945, she married Ettler Dewey Voss of Culleoka who was career military in the U.S. Navy. They were transferred frequently and lived on many military bases from California to Bermuda. Chief Voss passed away in 1991. She later married James Edward Bills who made her family whole and happy again. They moved to Columbia in 1995 to be close to their families where they were members of Graymere Church of Christ. After he passed away in 2017, her health began to decline.

Survivors include her daughter Patricia (Ronald Sr.) Erland; two grandsons, Ronald Jr. and Michael Erland of Fairview; step-son, Jeffrey Bills (Nancy); step-granddaughter, Mary Dabney Bills of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters and brothers-n-law, June and Tom Bills, Doris and Benny Bills, Juanita Bills and Josephine Bills, and many dear nieces and nephews from the Smith, Voss and Bills’ families including special niece: Darlene Baxter of Columbia and special nephew, Pat Ryan of Lebanon. In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Mary Potts of Columbia, Gladys Ryan of Nashville and Dorothy Manus of Murfreesboro, and brothers-in-law, Robert Ryan and Dean Manus.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Franklin Morning Pointe and Guardian Hospice for their excellent care and kindness.
