Lillia May Mullens

June 23, 1928 — August 31, 2011

Mrs. Lillia May Mullens, age 83, resident of Columbia and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, August 31 at NHC/Hillview.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mullens will be conducted 10:00 A.M. Monday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Steve Swango and Rev. William Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends Sunday from 5:00 -8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Lillia Lil was born the third of six children to Grace and Carl Burton in Jackson, KY on June 23, 1928. As a young woman she moved to Dayton, OH to be with her older brother and was employed at National Cash Register. In Dayton she met and married James Ercle Mullens on November 1, 1949. Jim and Lil moved to Detroit, MI here Jim was employed in the car industry. Lil was a housewife and together they raised their three daughters, Brenda Carol, Beverly Sue and Terry Lynn in Taylor, MI. After their daughters grew up and moved away from home, Jim and Lil retired and moved to their farm in Mt. Pleasant, TN. They enjoyed 20 years of retirement on their farm and then moved in the town of Mt. Pleasant for their last years. Jim and Lil have lived at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Columbia for the last year.

Lil is survived by her dear husband: Jim, who resides at Morning Pointe; two daughters: Beverly Sue Mann of Lutherville, MD and Master Sgt. Terry Mullens Hutmacher USAF, retired and her husband Master Sgt. Kenneth Wayne Hutmacher USAF, retired of Syracuse, UT; two grandchildren: Airman First Class Kathryn Elizabeth Mullens Hutmacher of Keesler AFB, MS and Andrew James Mullens Hutmacher of Syracuse, UT. Lil's daughter, Brenda Carol preceded her in death in August of 1996.
