Lex V. "L.V." Short, Jr.

December 24, 1922 — August 7, 2006

Mr. Lex V. ?L.V.? Short, 83, a resident of Pawnee Trail in Columbia, passed away Monday, August 7, 2006 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Short will be conducted Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Steve Robertson and Reverend Gene Shelton officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors proveded by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Lex V. and Josephine Thomas Short, Sr. and the husband of Mildred Lee England Short. He was retired co-owner of Thomas Food Market in Mt. Pleasant, a veteran of WWII as a Marine radio operator, a member of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, member of the National Rifle Association and a charter member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, H.D. Eugenia Short of Columbia; sister-in-law, Ines Dugger of Columbia; nephews, Ron Thomas and Lex Murray, both of Murfreesboro, Don Thomas of Brentwood, Doug Short of Kingston Springs, Charles ?Corky? Murray of LaVergne, Billie Murray of Berlin, MD, Mike Jones of Tennessee, Ronnie Davis of California, Jimmy England of Pulaski and Tommy England of Mt. Pleasant; nieces, Retta Murray of Nashville, Kathy Kightlinger of Pulaski, Linda Rankin and Dorothy Faye Hendrix, both of Columbia; cousin, Frank Thomas of Columbia.

Pallbearers will be Jack Bannister, Bill Landers, Bill Gunnell, Chester Hutchinson, Tim Owen and Wayne Haynes. Honorary pallbearers will be members of First Church of the Nazarene and past employees of Thomas Food Market.
