Leslie E. Claiborne

Mr. Leslie Claiborne, age 89, resident of Cross Valley Drive, passed away on Friday, February 12, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Claiborne will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 13th at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Melinda Britt officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors to be provided by the United States Army.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 5-8 PM and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Born May 16, 1920 in Macon County, he was the son of the late Harvey and Zora Snider Claiborne. He was the husband of Dru Baker Claiborne of Columbia. Mr. Claiborne was a graduate of Allen County, KY and was a retired Insurance Agent and security guard. He enlisted on May 26, 1941 in Jackson, Mississippi-Army Air Corps and served in the South Pacific Australia; Papua and New Guinea during World War II. Mr. Claiborne enjoyed square dancing, sports and especially baseball. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbia.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children: Doug Claiborne, Peggy Tommy McEwen, Greg Claiborne, and Dawn Bill Yelverton of Columbia; one sister: Estelle Driver of AL; three brothers: Ray Joyce Claiborne of Hendersonville, Jim Sue Claiborne of Portland and Clessie Nina Claiborne of Scottsville, KY. Grandchildren: Kami Webb Billy Thurman of Columbia, Neil Webb of Knoxville, Danielle Claiborne of Knoxville; great grand children: Hayley Thurman, Billy Thurman, III, and Brady Thurman; Step Grandchildren: Chris Mandy McEwen and Kristie Brandon Sullivan, and 3 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Steven Claiborne, and brothers: Charlie Claiborne, Domie Claiborne, Harvey Claiborne, Jr. and Earl Claiborne.

Pallbearers will be Greg Claiborne, Neil Webb, Bill Yelverton, Tommy McEwen, Billy Thurman II and Larry Morrow.
