Lera Wynona Dowdy passed from this life on Monday morning surrounded by her loving family.
Wynona was born on May 28, 1932, to the late James Herbert Smith and Lena Pruitt Smith in Calhoun County, Alabama.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved people and her Lord. She was a homemaker and a member of the Highland Church of Christ.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dowdy will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with David Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her daughters, Lisa (Todd) Fitzgerald of Santa Fe and Denise (Greg) Sanders of Prospect, TN; grandchildren, Courtney (Brad) Potts of Columbia, Kalee (T.J.) Thompson of Santa Fe, Jack Fitzgerald of Santa Fe, Jayson Hamilton of Prospect and Paxton Sanders of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Chloe Anderson and Todd Anderson and Blake Potts of Columbia and Chandler Thompson of Santa Fe.
She is preceded in death by her loving and faithful husband, Curtis Dowdy, who passed away on August 11, 2016 and a son, John Curtis Dowdy.
Pallbearers will be David Glasgow, Jack Fitzgerald, Jayson Hamilton, Curtis Flowers, T.J. Thompson, and Brad Potts. Honorary pallbearers will be Harriet Jett, Faye Flowers, Mattie Lee Shannon, Martha Ann Henderson, Nancy Glasgow and Dr. John Simmons.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Susan Graham and Kia with Hospice Compassus.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Highland Church fo Christ Building Fund or Hospice Compassus.
