Larry Shackelford

Larry Shackelford, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 77 years old.

Larry was born on June 9, 1947, to the late Kermit and Lucille Shackelford and was raised in Tennessee, where he cultivated a lifelong love for family, faith, and community. Known for his ever-present smile and enjoyed seeing others with a smile on their face and would tell them “I enjoy the smile”. Larry truly brought warmth and joy to everyone he met.

A man of steadfast faith, Larry was a longtime and active member of Destiny Church in Lewisburg, Tennessee. His commitment to his church and his relationship with God were cornerstones of his life.

Larry shared 24 and a half beautiful years of marriage devoted to his loving wife, Pamela Shackelford. Together, they built a family full of love and support. Larry is survived by his wife Pamela; children Jennifer (Todd) Thompson, Candi (Chip) Wilkie, Tony (Amanda) Poteete, April (Trey) Childress, Angela Poteete, and their fur baby Alex.

He is reunited with his parents and brother: Glenn Shackelford. 

Larry was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life: Ryann and Taylor Thompson, Casey, Megan, and Josh Wilkie, Briayna, Lily, and Chase Poteete, Alli, Ethan, and Jace Childress, and Sam and Lizzy Roberts. He also has 2 great grandchildren: Brooklyn Buhl and Milo Wilkie.

Larry’s life was a testament to the power of faith and family. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, putting others before himself, kindness, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He was truly the hands and feet of Jesus.
