Mrs. Catherine Ann ?Kittie? Burns Fly, RN, 51, wife of Claude Fly and a resident of the Williamsport Pike in the Sawdust Community, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.
A memorial service for Mrs. Fly will be conducted Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 4:30 p.m. at the Williamsport United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Smith and Reverend Larry McGranahan officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home Columbia.
The Red Springs, North Carolina native was the daughter of Madeline Odom Burns Love and the late Halbert L. Burns of Red Springs, North Carolina. She was a graduate of Red Springs High School. She started her nursing career as a Candy Striper then became an LPN. She received her A.S. degree in Nursing from Columbia State Community College. She served as director of nursing for several nursing homes in Columbia and Southfield, Michigan and was charge nurse for First Floor West at Maury Regional Hospital. She also was involved in Home Health Care and was affiliated with several local physicians. She was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Sarah Katherine Fly of the Sawdust Community; a son, Nathan Franklin Fly of the Sawdust Community; a sister, Mary Norton of Canton, NC; her mother-in-law, Ruth Fly of the Sawdust Community; three brothers-in-law, Frank M. Suzanne Fly of Murfreesboro, TN , J. Mark Kathleen Fly of Norris, TN, and Joe L. Fly of the Sawdust Community; a daughter, Pat Fly of Dallas, TX; a son, Randy Donna Fly 0f Algood, TN; a brother, Halbert Denise Burns of Shelby, NC.
