Mr. Kirby McMunn, age 89, a resident of Union Place in Columbia, passed away on Friday, December 4, at Maury Regional Medical Center
Funeral services for Mr. McMunn will be conducted Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Mark Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens City Cemetery in Athens, AL at 3:30 PM with military honors provided by the US Navy.
The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 5:00 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Born June 11, 1920 in Limestone County, AL, he was the son of the late Walter and Ellen Byram McMunn and the husband of the late Irene McMahan McMunn. He retired from Monsanto as a heavy equipment operator, loved whittling, fishing, carpentering, quilting and cooking. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. McMunn is survived by his daughters: Patricia Tommy Dooley of Columbia and Elaine Billy Runions of Hohenwald; grandchildren: Julie DougKinnard of Columbia, Jeff Shauna Dooley of Spring Hill, Darrell Diana Runions and Jodie Runions, both of Hohenwald; great grandchildren: Lauren Kinnard and Abby Kinnard, both of Columbia, Carrie , Wendy and Clay Runions and Lacey Horner, all of Hohenwald. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 6 brothers.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of Monsanto Chemical Company.
