Mr. Kinnard "Ken" O. Beard, 67, a long-time resident of 3rd Avenue in Columbia, died Wednesday at the VA Hospital in Nashville.
Funeral services for Mr. Beard will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Minister Jim Brown and George Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Santa Fe Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Maury County native was the son of the late Raleigh and Betty Hood Beard. He was the loving husband of 45 years to Myrna Powers Beard of Columbia. He was owner and operator of Ken's Recovery and Security Service. He served as trustee of the Fraternal Order of Police and was the first recepient of the Maury County Handicap Employee of the Year. He attended the Church of Christ and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. He served our country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He provided security for the Columbia Spring Jubilee Horse Show for 35 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Susan Keene of Columbia, TN and Kimberly Love of Smyrna, TN; three sons, Steven Paula Beard and Sgt. Chandler Felicia Beard both of Columbia, TN, and Major Samuel Patricia Beard of Old Hickory, TN; seven grandchildren, Tabitha Keene of Columbia, TN, Scott Love and Alex Love both of Smyrna, TN, Sabrina Beard and Zachary Beard both of Old Hickory, TN, Victoria Beard and Anders Beard both of Columbia, TN; four step grandchildren, Autumn Beech and Alex Beech both of Columbia, TN and Josh Wix and Kyle Wix both of Old Hickory, TN; a sister, Doris Wakefield of Santa Fe, TN; a brother, William Beverly Beard of Columbia, TN; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Louise Waldron.
Pallbearers will be Robert McAdams, Capt. Jimmy Brown, Jerry Dickey, Lt. Mike Bray, Ron Barnes, Earl Pettus, Larry Hartzog, and Chris Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Morrow, Eugene Heller, Charles Bills, Michael Edwards, Dr. Dewey Dunn, Shannon Sparkman, Tony McKennon, Dennis Powers, Enoch George, Ashley Brown, and J.R. Anderson, members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, James K. Polk F.O.P. Lodge #26, and members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and members of the United States Armed Forces.
