Kenneth Keith Anderson, Sr.
October 13, 1934 — March 22, 2009
Mr. Kenneth Keith Anderson, Sr., loving husband and daddy, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 22, at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin following a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church in Columbia with Rev. Mike Dawson and Rev. Pete Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
Kenneth was born October 13, 1934, in Lawrence County, Ala., the son of the late Harvey and Clara Strickland Anderson. He was the husband of 52 years of Opal Smith Anderson whom he married on November 25, 1956. He was retired from General Motors in Pontiac, Mich., after 35 years of service, working as a material handler and forklift operator. He returned to his southern roots in 1992, making his home in Columbia. Kenneth was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, where he served the Lord even in times of great physical challenge.
Ken adored his wife, Opal, and treated his grand babies with loving tenderness. He loved being near the ocean to simply listen and watch the tides. He was an easy going man with tremendous integrity. He will be greatly missed but will be easily spotted in Heaven as the one with the well deserved crown for all the lives he influenced through the years in his quiet and supportive way.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children: Roland Linda Anderson of Spring Hill, Sheron James Hobgood of Columbia, Kenneth Pam Anderson of Chapel Hill, Robin Tom Moore of Oxford, Mich., and Andrea Don Kline of Hampshire; one brother: Roger Dale Deborah Anderson of Bend, Ore.; one sister: Doyle Sam Graham of Moulton, Ala.; grandchildren: Jason Leslie Anderson of Murfreesboro, Bryan Paige Anderson of Murfreesboro, Jamie Hobgood of Columbia, Dylan Moore of Oxford, Mich., Harrison Moore of Oxford, Mich., Brianna Anderson of Columbia, Dakota Anderson of Chapel Hill, Isabella Kline of Hampshire, and Olivia Kline of Hampshire; great-grandchildren: Madeline, Carter and Jacob Anderson, all of Murfreesboro. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Janiece Hobgood and Connor Moore.
Pallbearers will be Jason Anderson, Bryan Anderson, Jamie Hobgood, Dylan Moore, Kyle Smith, Jim Aldridge and Gary Beaty. Honorary pallbearers will be the Billy Kimbrough Sunday School class of First Baptist Church, Dr. Patrick Murphy and the Tennessee Oncology Group, Dr. Ben Gardner and staff, and The Franklin Urological Associates.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 2790 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, or to the American Cancer Society, Maury County Unit, P. O. Box 1864, Columbia, TN 38402.
