Mrs. De Gurta Kathleen Davenport Alexander, age 74, a resident of Rockland Drive in Columbia, passed away Friday at her home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Alexander will be conducted Monday, January 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Family Church with Pastor Carol Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 3:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
The McCreary County, Kentucky native was the daughter of late Henry and Zora Crabtree Davenport and the wife of Fred Alexander. Mrs. Alexander was a Coal Miners daughter and moved to Revelo, KY at the age of five. She met Fred in 1952 and was married five weeks later and they were married on Oct. 11, 1952 and they were married for 54 years. Fred was in the United States Navy and they traveled from one country to another for 20 years. Fred spent a total of 24 yrs in the service serving our country. We served our country with pride and joy and would do it again in a heartbeat. This truly is the greatest country on the whole earth. Our first tour of duty after we were married was Dupont, S.C., just outside of Charleston, then Fred got out of the Navy in Nov. of 1953. Later in 1955 he rejoined the Navy and served our country until 1974, retiring as Master Chief Petty Officer. After retiring we returned to Indiana where Fred went back to General Motors Corp. Mrs. Alexander was a beautician, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a member of the Trinity family Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Kenneth Vanessa Alexander of Anderson, IN, Rebecca Jerry Strahan of Columbia, TN and Timothy Craig Alexander of Sarasoto, FL; grandchildren, Zachary Alexander, Lucas Alexander, Mary Kathleen Alexander all of Anderson, IN, Matthew Nichole Strahan of Columbia, TN, Joshua Lauren Strahan of Abilene, TX, Ethan James Alexander of Sarasota, Fl; great-granddaughter, Isabella Strahan of Columbia, TN; one sister, Johnetta Marker of Mooresville, IN; one brother, Roger Davenport of Muncie, IN. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Davenport.
Pallbearers will be Cal Hicks, Bobby Walker, Glenn Myers, Nilo Moore, Larry Thompson and Dexter Dooley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Trintiy Family Church.
