Mrs. Katherine "Killy" Killebrew Early was born April 9, 1906 in Mt. Pleasant, moved to Nashville in 1912 and moved to Columbia in 1938, and she died in Columbia on November 29, 2002 at the age of 96.
A memorial service for Mrs. Early will be conducted Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend William W. Williamson officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 9:00 until service time in the Friendship Room at the church. Williams Columbia Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Kings Daughters' School.
Born to Donna Frierson and George Wimberly Killebrew, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Rufus Morgan Hickey, III died May 17, 1934 and John Early, Jr. died April 6, 1973; two children, Margaret Early Ross and John Killebrew Early and her brothers, George Wimberley Killebrew, Jr., James Granbery Killebrew, Joseph Buckner Killebrew, John Frierson Killebrew, Robert Sterling Killebrew, William Langley Killebrew, and sisters, Martha Killebrew Lanier and Helen Killebrew Rooney.
She was a graduate of Tarbox School, Miss Annie Allison's, Ward Belmont in Nashville and attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended and worked at Camp Nakanawa for nine years and was Lady of the Cup. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and served on the boards of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Junior League of Nashville, James K. Polk Association, Guided Circle Chapter of Kings Daughters' School and Quaestio Club, and the Columbia Garden Club. She was an avid gardner and a realtor with Early and White Realty.
She is survived by her daughter, Wimberly Hickey Naud Burnett of Nashville, TN and Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, Catherine Cowan Paul Brock of Lookout Mountain, GA, James Harrison "Buck" Susan Cowan of Dallas, TX, Frederick Lee Melanie Blank, III of Nashville, TN, John Fletcher Nicole Blank of St. Louis, MO, and Lawrence Charlie Blank-Cook of Nashville, TN; ten great grandchildren.
