J.W. Hay

J.W. Hay was born September 3, 1932 in Maury County, the son of the late Hensley and Gertie Beard Hay. He was the husband of Betty Potts Hay of Columbia.

J.W. served in the United States Navy on the USS General Breckenridge during the Korean conflict. He was a Naval retiree and also Civil Service retiree. J.W. was a member of the NARFE, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and VFW. He was a dedicated member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Columbia and at one time was Sunday School superintendent of the Mt. Wesley Church of the Nazarene. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. J.W. enjoyed Bluegrass music and the Atlanta Braves, especially the times he was able to go to Atlanta for the ballgames.

J.W. and Betty together raised a loving family, including their children, Mickey Vickie Hay of Lewisburg, Kenny Angela Hay of Spring Hill and Dee Dee Denton Dykes Hay of Columbia; grandsons, Stephen Carrie Hay of Nashville, Christopher & Jonathan Hay of Spring Hill, one granddaughter, LeAnn Wayne Street of Columbia, one great-grandson, Gavin Street of Columbia; two brothers, Clifton Martha Hay and Milton Janice Hay; one sister, Shirley Eddie Kelley; one sister-in-law, Martha Hay along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, J.W. was preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie Hay, Mark Hay and Tom Hay; sisters-in-law, Esterline Hay, Glenda Hay and Lois Hay.

Funeral services for J.W. will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Steve Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkison Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19.

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Hay, Christopher Hay, Jonathan Hay, Wayne Street, Ryan Kelley and Ronnie Sheeter. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Jewell, Wayne Harris, Chester Hutcherson, Wayne Patterson, Arch Patterson, Larry Fox, Travis Warf, Larry Adkison, Roger Fox, Marion Sewell, Wayne Haynes, Jimmy Bloss and Clayton Hutcherson.
